Poetry

At St Philip's, we value poetry as an important part of our writing curriculum. Our poetry progression document 3 genres of poetry for each year group, per year which have been carefully mapped out to ensure the skills the children are taught are progressive. Apart from than free-verse poetry, each year group has been given different poems to study. This means that by the time our children leave St Philip's, they have learned about a broad range of different poems.

After we have written our poems, we enjoy performing them to an audience.

Have a look at a few videos of Y4 performing Tetractys poems. Some children were brave enough to perform them in assembly to the rest of the school.

Here's Year One performing 'Firework Poem' by James Carter.
